SECRETARY OF HIGHER EDUCATION ACCOUNCES NEW STUDENT
COMMISSIONER
Baltimore, MD (September 20, 2012) – The Secretary of Higher
Education, Dr. Danette G. Howard, is pleased to announce the
appointment of Lisa Latour as Student Commissioner of the
Maryland Higher Education Commission.
“Lisa will bring a great deal of experience, passion, and
commitment to the Commission and I look forward to working
with her in the upcoming year,” said Dr. Howard.
“(It is) my quest to assure that all citizens (are) informed
of the availability of a high quality education right here
in Maryland, that it is easily accessible to all learners,
is diverse and affordable because sometimes life takes
unexpected paths, but higher education in Maryland proves
itself as the right direction to take,” said Lisa.
Since 2004, Lisa has proudly serviced the special needs
students at Rachel Carson Elementary School where she began
as a volunteer and was quickly hired as a paraeducator.“ Lisa
is going to bring a unique perspective to the Commission,”
said Commission Chairman Anwer Hasan. “I am looking forward
to her playing a critical role in our discussions regarding
the growth of Maryland’s post-secondary opportunities.”
Lisa is currently a sophomore earning an Associate of Arts
degree in the area of Elementary and Special Education at
Montgomery College and holds a Certificate of Completion
from Hallmark Institute of Photography. She is enrolled in
Montgomery College’s Renaissance Scholars Honors Program and
an active member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
