DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE EDWARD T.
CONROY MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP IS JULY 15
Award may cover up to full amount of tuition and fees at
a four-year public
higher education institution in Maryland
Annapolis, MD (June 15, 2007) – July 15 is the deadline to
apply for the Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship. The
Conroy Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Maryland
Higher Education Commission, is available to the sons and
daughters of members of the United States armed forces who
died as a result of military service or who suffered a
service connected 100% permanent disability as a result of
military service, veterans who suffer a service connected
disability of 25 percent or greater as a result of military
service, POW/MIA's of the Vietnam Conflict and their sons
and daughters, sons and daughters and surviving spouses (who
have not remarried) of victims of the September 11, 2001
terrorist attacks, sons daughters and surviving spouses (who
have not remarried) of state or local public safety
employees or volunteers who died in the line of duty or who
sustained an injury in the line of duty that rendered the
public safety employee or volunteer 100% disabled, and State
or local public safety employees or volunteers who became
100 percent disabled in the line of duty.
The total amount of the Conroy award may be equal to the
tuition and fees at the institution attended; however the
total dollar amount may not exceed $8,650, whichever is
less.
To qualify for the scholarship the applicant must enroll for
at least six credits each semester in a degree-seeking
graduate or undergraduate program at a college or
university, or a private career school in Maryland. More

The Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship was named for the
late Sen. Edward T. Conroy, a decorated veteran of the
Korean War who spent 20 years in the politics in Prince
George’s County. Conroy took a keen interest in veterans’
issues, serving as both state and national commander of the
Disabled American Veterans, and introducing numerous
veterans bills in the General Assembly.
