BRAC Higher Education Investment Fund Request for Applications

ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 17, 2009) - For the second year in a row, the Maryland Higher Education Commission is releasing Request for Applications (RFAs) for initiatives to address the State’s higher education needs related to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. The BRAC Higher Education Investment Fund, administered by MHEC, will fund various programmatic initiatives directly related to BRAC educational needs.

A total of $1 million was provided by Governor O’Malley in the fiscal year 2010 budget through Governor O’Malley’s historic Higher Education Investment Fund.
The award range for grants will be between $25,000 to $100,000 depending on the scope of the project. The grant period will run from January1, 2009 to December 31, 2010. Applications may be submitted for one funding cycle only.

Eligible grant applicants include:
• Maryland’s two- and four-year public or independent institutions of higher education;
• Maryland’s research institutions;
• Maryland’s Regional Higher Education Centers;
• Maryland’s private career schools approved by MHEC
Grant applicants may include additional partners in the application, such as other higher education institutions, businesses, nonprofit organizations, or any other entity that can and is willing to add value to the project.

The Request for Applications can be found on MHEC’s website at: http://mhec.maryland.gov/higherEd/BRAC/BRACpage.asp

The Maryland Higher Education Commission is a 12-member coordinating board responsible for establishing statewide policies for Maryland public and independent colleges and universities and private career schools.
