BRAC Higher Education Investment Fund Request
for Applications
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 17, 2009) - For the second
year in a row, the Maryland Higher Education Commission is
releasing Request for Applications (RFAs) for initiatives to
address the State’s higher education needs related to the
Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. The BRAC Higher
Education Investment Fund, administered by MHEC, will fund
various programmatic initiatives directly related to BRAC
educational needs.
A total of $1 million was provided by Governor O’Malley in
the fiscal year 2010 budget through Governor O’Malley’s
historic Higher Education Investment Fund.
The award range for grants will be between $25,000 to
$100,000 depending on the scope of the project. The grant
period will run from January1, 2009 to December 31, 2010.
Applications may be submitted for one funding cycle only.
Eligible grant applicants include:
• Maryland’s two- and four-year public or independent
institutions of higher education;
• Maryland’s research institutions;
• Maryland’s Regional Higher Education Centers;
• Maryland’s private career schools approved by MHEC
Grant applicants may include additional partners in the
application, such as other higher education institutions,
businesses, nonprofit organizations, or any other entity
that can and is willing to add value to the project.

The Maryland Higher Education Commission is a 12-member
coordinating board responsible for establishing statewide
policies for Maryland public and independent colleges and
universities and private career schools. It serves as an
advocate for more than 337,000 college students in Maryland,
for the State and its needs, and for business and industry
in Maryland.
