January 2006 Press Release

FAFSA is needed to apply for federal and state financial aid

Annapolis, MD (January 5, 2006) – Students interested in attending college may now submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for federal and state financial aid. The deadline to submit the form for the 2006-2007 academic year for most of Maryland’s State need-based financial aid is March 1.

Forms are available at local libraries, high school guidance offices, and at area colleges and universities. Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

This year, the Office of Student Financial Assistance of the Maryland Higher Education Commission will award almost $95 million in financial aid to Maryland students. For more information about Maryland’s financial aid programs, visit MHEC online at www.mhec.state.md.us  or via the telephone at 1-800-974-1024 or 410-260-4565.
