January 2006 Press Release

One-day event helps students through financial aid process

Annapolis, MD (January 9, 2006) – The Maryland Higher Education Commission will join students, their parents and financial aid professionals for the fifth annual College Goal Sunday, a one-day event to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) -- the financial aid form required by most colleges, universities and private career schools to qualify for scholarships, grants and loans.

College Goal Sunday, hosted by the DE-DC-MD Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Inc., will begin at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 12 at 20 locations across Maryland, Washington, DC and Delaware. More than 2,000 students are expected to participate.

“This is a terrific program and one that benefits students enormously,” said Calvin W. Burnett, Maryland Secretary of Higher Education. “Each year, demand for this service has increased, which clearly can be attributed to the dedication, commitment and level of service provided by financial aid professionals and the institutions participating in the event.
