MHEC's 2009 Data Book Released to Legislators, College
Leaders, and the General Public
ANNAPOLIS, MD (February 2, 2009) – One of the
Maryland Higher Education Commission’s most valuable and
anticipated annual publications is being released today.
The 2009 Data Book provides easy-to-access statistics and
information about numerous aspects of postsecondary
education in Maryland.
The publication contains updated figures about student
enrollment, retention and graduation rates, degrees awarded,
faculty, revenues and expenditures, tuition and fees,
financial aid, and distance learning among many other
interesting statistics.
The Data Book has been used by the O’Malley-Brown
administration, MHEC Commissioners, legislators, college
presidents, vice presidents, deans, faculty, the press and
the general public for its precise statistics.
“This is a tremendous publication,” Secretary of Higher
Education James E. Lyons, Sr., said. “It is an invaluable
source of information to me and I am sure that once again
this year, those who make use of the Data Book will agree
that it is a great resource.”
To request a copy of the Data Book, contact Kristen Neville
at (410) 260-4512. It will also be available on-line at
www.mhec.state.md.us by February 10.
The Maryland Higher Education Commission is a 12-member
coordinating board responsible for establishing statewide
policies for Maryland public and independent colleges and
universities and private career schools. It serves as an
advocate for more than 326,000 college students in Maryland,
for the State and its needs, and for business and industry
