MARCH 1 IS FAFSA DEADLINE FOR STUDENTS
WHO WILL APPLY FOR
FOSTER CARE TUITION WAIVER
Annapolis, MD (February 7, 2006) – The deadline to file the FAFSA for students who will apply for the Foster Care Tuition Waiver is
March 1.
To be eligible, students must complete the FAFSA, available electronically at
www.fafsa.ed.gov , or pick up paper copies of the form from libraries or high school guidance offices.
Other eligibility requirements include having resided in a foster care home in Maryland at the time the student graduated from high school or successfully completed a general equivalency development examination (GED); or the student must have resided in a Maryland foster care home on their 14th birthday and were then adopted after the 14th birthday. The Department of Human Resources must also confirm that the student is eligible for the waiver. The student must enroll as a degree-seeker at a public two-year or four-year higher education institution in Maryland on or before age 21.
If approved, the student will have tuition and fees not covered by grants and scholarships waived. The student should contact the financial aid office at their college to determine their eligibility for the waiver.
