2007 PROGRAM IN MARYLAND
Thousands of college bound students expected to attend
6th annual event to receive free financial aid application
assistance
Comcast Spotlight and Radio One DC continue as major
media partners
Annapolis, MD – The Maryland Higher Education Commission
encourages students and parents to take advantage of the
programs offered through College Goal Sunday.
Hosted by the DE-DC-MD Association of Student Financial Aid
Administrators, Inc. (ASFAA), the sixth annual College Goal
Sunday will take place in January and February 2007 at 20
locations across Delaware, DC and Maryland (locations list
attached). Snow dates are also scheduled. Most events will
be held on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 2 p.m. Endorsed by
the U.S. Department of Education, Maryland Higher Education
Commission, Maryland State Department of Education, DC
Public and Charter Schools, DC State Education Office and
Delaware Department of Education, College Goal Sunday
invites college bound students to a location near them to
receive free professional assistance to complete the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Colleges,
universities and private career schools require the FAFSA
form to qualify for federal grants and loans, as well as
most state and private scholarships.
Students attending College Goal Sunday need to bring proof
of 2006 income and benefits information, such as completed
or estimated IRS federal income tax returns and W-2 Forms,
or year-end pay stubs and proof of untaxed income, for the
student and the parent(s). For more information on College
Goal Sunday in Maryland, Delaware and DC, students and
parents can call toll free 866-GO-2-GOAL or visit
www.GO2GOAL.org. There is no charge for any of these
events.
All college bound students are invited to attend College
Goal Sunday to receive free help. The primary
goal of College Goal Sunday is to make sure that the first
step to financial aid is accurately completed so that funds
can be made available to those striving for a higher
education.
Adult learners headed back to school are welcome. Many
locations offer foreign language translators. Specific
information on translator availability can be found online
(www.go2goal.org).
College Goal Sunday in this region has three new sites for
2007, including Frederick Community College in Frederick,
University of Maryland-Baltimore in Baltimore City, and Anne
Arundel Community College in Arnold.
"ASFAA is proud to again offer College Goal Sunday to
students of all ages across the region," said Cissy
VanSickle, DE-DC-MD ASFAA member and chairperson of the
College Goal
Sunday committee. "College Goal Sunday provides a valuable
free service to anyone seeking financial aid assistance. Our
volunteers' expertise in the financial aid application
process directly helps more people gain financial aid making
higher education more accessible."
Comcast Spotlight is again supporting College Goal Sunday as
a premier media partner by donating production and
significant airtime in Maryland, Delaware and DC to promote
the events. Radio One will also donate airtime to promote
College Goal Sunday on their DC stations.
