MARYLAND HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION
ISSUES 2007-08 CALENDAR
Aid to Juniors Seeking Postsecondary Educational Options
Annapolis, MD (April 3, 2007) - The Maryland Higher
Education Commission (MHEC) has issued for the second year,
a postsecondary educational planning calendar developed
in-house for use as a resource for high school students and
the teachers and family members who work with them to plan
their futures. The Commission has mailed to all Maryland
public and private high schools these 15-month calendars,
which begin with April of the students’ junior year and end
June 30, 2008.
“The purpose of this calendar is to provide students with
month-by-month sets of reminders, pointers, and information
sources to help them think about their plans after high
school,” said Dr. James E. Lyons, Sr., Secretary, MHEC. “We
hope it will help them with the processes of applying for
postsecondary education and financial assistance.”
Although the calendar is geared to students applying to two-
or four-year colleges, the Commission hopes it will offer
something to each student, whether the student intends to
apply to a competitive four-year college or is mulling over
the possibility of any education after high school. The
calendar is intended to be a useful tool to counselors as
they guide students in making informed choices about their
futures. The back flap lists all Maryland colleges and
contact information.
The calendar was funded in part through a grant from United
State Aid Funds, Inc. (USAFunds).
This calendar is a complement to the Commission’s
ever-popular College 411: The Student Guide to Higher
Education and Financial Aid in Maryland, which is
distributed in English and Spanish each year to high school
seniors.
