Music Program Description
The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music with areas of concentrations (AOCs) in Composition; Guitar; Winds; Strings and Percussion; Keyboard; Voice and Jazz/Commercial Music- Performance and Composition is designed for students seeking professional training culminating in a professional degree in music.  The curriculum has been adjusted to assure that students receive a solid grounding in the fundatmentals of music theory and history, take individual instruction in applied music and participate in musical ensembles appropriate to there area of musical training.  The degree maintains study of pedagogy and literature but has added courses in music technology and industry.  The new degree content reflects a global perspective through required courses in world music or world music ensemble and a new focus on technology and diversity including vernacular and American music.  Graduates of the program will be able to demonstrate technical mastery in performance, composition, or music technology; perform and/or compose music with acuity, musical insight and artistic excellence; and demonstrated an advanced knowledge and understanding of music and developing research skills appropriate for examining and writing about music effectively.
