OOS Initial Application  Program Description

The Doctor of Nursing Practice prepares practice scholars in translating evidence-based knowledge into clinical practice, improving health care outcomes, and strengthening nursing management and education within public and private organizations. Increased complexity in health care and national issues related to patient safety and quality improvement call for fundamental changes in the education of all health care professionals. The program requires a total of 74 credits hours.

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing Science is designed to prepare students for research and academic careers in major universities and for research positions in public or private sectors of health care. The program requires a total of 72credits hours.

The Master of Science in Nursing is designed to address the increase in knowledge required of nurses and the scope of their responsibilities, as well as changes in roles, functions, and practice settings, require a post-baccalaureate nursing education. The program ranges from 39 to 65 credit hours and offers fifteen areas of concentration. Many of the areas of concentration may be taken separately as a PMC, identified below with an asterisk.

The Doctor of Audiology is a four year post baccalaureate degree which replaces the Master of Science as the requirement for entry-level practitioner of audiology. The program is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The Doctor of Medicine/Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Scientist Training is based on clinical and research training and is designed to foster the development of independent scientific careers. Successful completion of the program leads to both the M.D and Ph.D. degrees.

The Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology provides clinical education leading to professional certification in speech language pathology. The program ranges from 51 to 59 credits hours.
