Higher Education in Maryland

Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies has a number of ongoing “green” initiatives that include the following:

  • Upgrade of HVAC units to higher energy efficiency and zone control.

  • Upgrade to variable speed motors for cooling towers for hotel.

  • Replacement roofs with additional insulation.

  • Install motion sensors on most lights in the academic classrooms and hallways.

  • Set up recycling of paper, plastic, bottles, aluminum and cardboard.

  • Replaced most bottled water with water coolers.

  • Planted new trees on the campus.

  • Internal initiative to shut down computers and copiers in the evening or when not in use.
