DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARD

Due to legislation passed during the 2011 General Assembly session, this program is no longer accepting applications. 

For current high school juniors: Due to legislation passed by the General Assembly in April 2011, no applications will be accepted for this program.

For current college students: For students who have already received scholarship funds in 2011-2012, your scholarship will continue to be funded until you have received four years of funding and/or the program is phased out in 2015, as long as you remain eligible..

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

You and your parents (if you are a dependent student) must be Maryland residents. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university or a private career school as a full-time (12+ credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate student.  Audited courses cannot be used to reach the minimum credit hours required for full-time status

FINANCIAL NEED

This award is not based on need.

AWARD AMOUNT

The award is $3,000 each year, subject to the availability of funds. This program is competitive. Funds may not be available to award all eligible students. The total dollar amount of all State awards may not exceed your cost of attendance as determined by your school’s financial aid office or $19,000, whichever is less.

RENEWING AN AWARD

Your award is automatically renewed if you maintain an annual minimum 3.0 GPA, your parents remain Maryland residents, and you remain enrolled full-time at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university or private career school. The award may be renewed for an additional three years, of full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate study.
